I struggled for years with anxiety, sleepless nights and feeling like there was ‘something wrong with me’.
I worked hard to be that person who had it all together when inside I was mush, sad, lost. I found an excellent therapist and mentor who had the right amount of care, concern and expertise (and patience!) to help me heal and move forward in my life.
And, so, I sought extensive training and practice in Trauma Informed Care, which guides my compassionate work with survivors/victims of abuse. I have worked both in inpatient and outpatient hospitals and clinics for 30 years.
This dedication to the care of those who suffered abuse also brought me to work in K-12 schools for a number of years, as well as being a foster parent for 20 years. It was through this work that I learned how to intervene and treat kids who struggled with abuse, ADHD, and other school challenges. And, teaching parents what works for these concerns.
My philosophy is that we learn certain beliefs about ourselves and the world around us when we are growing up. These “scripts” or belief systems guide our thoughts and interactions, as well as our relationships. Sometimes they keep us depressed (shaming, blaming ourselves), anxious (fear driven thoughts or beliefs), and bring us to unhealthy relationships or jobs, making us believe that we are stuck or broken.
The good news is we can change these beliefs. We can feel differently about ourselves and see the world in a different light. We can have a healthier, less stressed life, and feel more connected to others.
I graduated with my Masters in Social Work, earned my license (LCSW) to practice as a therapist, and enjoy working with people who are in similar situations. I have continued to learn as much as I can so that I can offer specific, tailor-made treatments that bring results.
My office, which is in my home, is safe, private, comfortable. A place where you can feel heard and understood, while you learn new ways of being. I am an animal lover, and you will find 2 gentle beagles, and 1 goofy orange cat, who greet you at the door.
